Lynn Casper - UW Madison, Badger memories
Lynn Casper has been capturing UW Madison memories for decades.
Artist Lynn Casper's UW Collection - "MADISON MEMORIES IN THE MAKING" - details in panoramic breadth, as well as close up views, classic campus scenes and favorite gathering spots, including Camp Randall Stadium, Union Terrace, Monona Lakefront, Bascom Hill and Fifth Quarter. Coach Barry Alvarez, Athletic Director Pat Richter, students and alumni across the country are collecting her artwork.
In addition to her contemporary scenes of Madison (the Market on the Capitol Square and State St.) and Milwaukee (the Riverwalk and Lakefront), over the past twenty five years Lynn Casper has extensively researched and skillfully detailed the landmarks and historical subjects of Southeastern Wisconsin. Her highly acclaimed city "Streetscapes", maritime scenes and landscapes evoke the rich flavor, optimism and vitality of days gone by. Details of vintage autos, storefronts, schooners and streetcars are all recreated on canvas after Lynn researches many sources. Historic accounts, old engravings, insurance atlases and antique merchandise catalogues provide information on period dress styles, architecture and transportation - every facet of life to be included in her paintings.
An Art History graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Lynn is a fifth generation Wisconsinite whose forebears settled in Madison in 1848. Currently with more than 70 limited edition prints available in the Casper Collector's Series, Lynn's many commissions include paintings for both Milwaukee and Waukesha County Sesquicentennials and the 75th anniversary of the Wisconsin Capitol. Her painting "Evening Reflections on the Capitol Square - 1917" was showcased in the Governor's Conference Room of the Capitol for the duration of the State's 150th anniversary year.
At the request of the State Historical Society, Lynn's Commemorative prints were signed by the eight living governors and framed in the original white oak moulding of the Capitol.
Lynn's Milwaukee City Hall painting was presented to Mayor Norquist and to the City on the occasion of Milwaukee's 150th birthday celebration. Her paintings are also featured in the beautifully illustrated book "Milwaukee 150 - the Greater Milwaukee Story"
Selected three times as Channel 10/36 featured artist, Lynn's painting of the historic Crossroads Village at Old World Wisconsin and her highly detailed depiction of the Gothic Chapel at Marquette University were projects that succeeded in bringing program funding to the Public Broadcasting Station. More recently, (2011) Lynn’s detailed, action packed “Take the Field” composition commemorated our UW Band’s 125th anniversary and celebrated the Badger Football Team’s Run-for-the-Roses. The edition, autographed by Coach Bielema and Band Director Mike Leckrone, was enthusiastically received bringing in high bids to Channel 10/36!!
Lynn's newest and very popular "Go Badgers!" series puts the viewer in the midst of fans cheering from the sidelines at Camp Randall Stadium or from courtside in the Kohl Center.
The Wisconsin Alumni Association of Waukesha County has honored Lynn as “Badger of the Year” in recognition of her ongoing contributions to the UW Athletic Scholarship Program.
Serious collectors of representational art have found Lynn Casper's historical recreations and contemporary renderings in numerous corporate and private collections as well as museums - including the permanent collection of the Milwaukee Art Center.
"More important than the graphic image, with all it's detail, is portraying the memories and moments-in-time that remind us of our past heritage and bring into perspective our modern life." -Lynn Casper
